Argentine rock legend Charly García returns with his first album in seven years, a collection of previously unreleased songs, reimagined classics, and collaborations with iconic figures like Luis Alberto Spinetta and Fito Páez.

Argentine rock icon Charly García has broken his seven-year silence with the release of his new album, La Lógica del Escorpión. The 72-year-old musician, known for his groundbreaking contributions to rock nacional, delivered his first album since 2017’s Random on Wednesday, September 11th, 2024.

La Lógica del Escorpión is a diverse collection of 13 tracks that showcase García’s enduring musical vision. The album features previously unreleased material, new takes on classic García songs, cover versions, and collaborations with other rock legends.

García delves into his past, revisiting songs from his debut project Sui Generis, and reunites with members of his iconic band Serú Girán. The album features guest appearances by David Lebón on guitars and Pedro Aznar, who collaborated on a reworking of David Bowie’s “América.”

One of the album’s most poignant moments is the posthumous collaboration with Luis Alberto Spinetta, another Argentine rock idol who passed away in 2012. “La pelícana y el androide” was part of a joint project that was cut short in the mid-1980s. Spinetta rescued the song for his 1986 album Privé, and García has now revisited the track, incorporating Spinetta’s voice from a demo recording.

The album also includes a Spanish-language version of The Byrds’ “Rock and Roll Star,” featuring a guest appearance by Fito Páez, and a reimagining of the Beatles’ “Medicine No. 9.”

Despite facing health challenges in recent years, García has shown no signs of slowing down. The album’s title, inspired by Aesop’s fable of the scorpion and the frog, reflects his unwavering dedication to his art. Music critic Luciano Lahiteau told AFP, “It’s not a self-indulgent album, not at all. It’s a very rock album, with guitars, with his voice – chastened, aching – at the forefront with its roughness and shortcomings.”

La Lógica del Escorpión is available on digital platforms, and a limited-edition vinyl release with cover art by Renata Schussheim is available for preorder.
